PMO Support Background
The Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) is Australia’s leading organisation for company directors. AICD promotes excellence in governance and provides professional education for directors. Its mission is to strengthen society and the economy through better governance. Over 35,000 directors and leaders are members. They come from commerce, government, professional services, private enterprise, and the not-for-profit sector. AICD equips directors to make a positive impact through effective governance and strong leadership.
Business Challenge
AICD needed to deliver IT projects in a more structured and efficient way. They wanted better visibility across their project portfolio. They needed to manage timelines effectively and optimise resource use. AICD also wanted a consistent framework for project delivery. With many IT initiatives running at once, they sought assurance that projects would align to business priorities and finish on time.
Results
CMC provided independent PMO and Project Management support across AICD’s IT Portfolio.
As part of this engagement, CMC:
- Developed a Master Project Plan covering over 20 projects. This plan showed interdependencies, milestones, and risks.
- Created a central Resource Pool to track utilisation and availability of 20+ IT resources. This improved planning and deployment.
- Established standard processes and templates for the IT team to use in future projects.
- Scheduled the entire IT program and its sub-projects to optimise sequencing and avoid conflicts.
- Facilitated regular IT team meetings to keep projects aligned with business priorities.
- Introduced weekly and fortnightly status reporting to improve governance and communication.
- Designed templates to support project planning beyond the engagement.
CMC helped AICD build stronger project management practices. We improved visibility, control, and delivery across the IT portfolio and set the AICD up for future success in managing projects efficiently.
