Background

The Environment Protection Authority (EPA) committed to publishing air quality information for the public, special interest groups, and academics. The NSW Government’s publishing strategy focused on web-based delivery.

At the same time, the EPA began standardising IT delivery processes and implementing parts of the Rational Unified Process. The EPA engaged CMC to provide a Test Manager to develop courseware for the IT rollout and deliver early training sessions.

Business Challenge

The EPA had developed a prototype AQMS in Microsoft Access. However, the system could not meet key business objectives, including the timely and accurate publishing of data to the web. The EPA needed a comprehensive test process to:

  • Stabilise the application for production use.
  • Recommend a future strategy for AQMS.

Results

CMC applied its Collaborative Risk Based Testing (CRBT) Methodology, identifying and resolving a large number of issues. This stabilised the system and allowed its migration to production, despite some remaining functionality gaps.

CMC recommended replacing the current system. It also conducted and documented a high-level assessment of potential replacement packages.

The Test Manager from CMC created and delivered the requested courseware to the IT group. CMC later developed and delivered training materials for the APT-Systems Project Management Methodology.
