Background

Vittoria Food & Beverage (formerly Cantarella Bros) is a long-established Australian company that manufactures coffee and imports a wide range of European fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG), including cheeses, beverages, and delicatessen products. With over 60 years of continuous operation, Vittoria built its success on product quality and market presence.

The company relied on a mature minicomputer-based ERP system, implemented around 35 years ago and heavily customised over time. These modifications supported specific needs such as promotions tracking, service and repairs, and integration with demand planning and warehouse management systems. However, the legacy system increasingly showed its limitations and could no longer meet the evolving demands of the business.

To maintain its competitive edge, Vittoria recognised the need to modernise its IT environment and align it with a clear technology strategy that could support long-term growth.

Business Challenge

Vittoria set out to improve operational efficiency and drive process optimisation across several key areas:

  • Warehouse processes
  • Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP)
  • Network and infrastructure
  • Mobile sales

Replacing the outdated ERP system was central to this transformation. Vittoria required a structured approach to both modernising its core systems and aligning IT investment with business priorities. The company engaged CMC to provide strategic ERP and technology advice, backed by hands-on experience in business transformation.

CMC began by developing a Strategic Information Systems Plan (SISP)—a roadmap to guide system and infrastructure investment over the next three to five years. In parallel, CMC conducted a broader Strategic Review, focusing on business process gaps, infrastructure readiness, and opportunities for operational improvement. Together, these efforts formed the foundation of Vittoria’s long-term technology strategy.

Results

CMC delivered both strategic insight and practical solutions to support Vittoria’s transformation. Key outcomes included:

  • Development of a Project Charter to guide ERP evaluation and selection
  • A full Network and Infrastructure Review
  • Coaching and mentoring of internal IT staff
  • A detailed Warehouse Management Review

CMC’s functional experts prepared targeted position papers for each focus area. These were presented to senior management to assist with informed decision-making and prioritisation. As a result of the SISP and strategic guidance, Vittoria initiated several key projects, including:

  • Demand Solutions – for improved forecasting and S&OP
  • Wyse – for modern warehouse management
  • Track It! – for IT Help Desk operations

Three years later, CMC was invited to review Vittoria’s progress against the original Strategic Plan. The team prepared an updated action plan for the newly appointed IT Manager to help drive further improvements and keep the roadmap aligned with changing business needs.

Through CMC’s ERP consulting and alignment of IT initiatives with a defined technology strategy, Vittoria positioned itself for sustained growth and operational efficiency.
