Background

Sims Metal Management (Sims Metal) is the global leader in metals and electronics recycling. Sims Metal Management today has over 230 locations on 4 continents and more than 7,500 employees. In Australia, Sims Metal operates a secondary aluminium smelter, plastics recycling facilities, electronic recycling and asset recovery plants.

Business Challenge

Sims Metal had decided to replace their current aging Progress Financials system. After an extensive evaluation process, the organisation decided to implement a new core financials system called Microsoft Dynamics AX.

Sims Metal required an experienced Business Process and Change Management Consultant to manage the ‘people’ changes that the Microsoft Dynamics AX implementation would introduce. Sims Metal decided to deploy the industry standard ADKAR Change Management Model, which focuses on five key goals to form the underlying basis of the change management program.

They also required independent Steering Committee Representation and QA Review of the Vendor deliverables.

Results

Sims Metal engaged CMC to assist with Business Process Engineering, Change Management and Steering Committee Representation. CMC was selected by Sims Metal because of the company’s independence and many years of experience with ERP implementations.

CMC’s consultants developed the Change Management Strategy and Communications Plan and worked closely with the project team to rollout the Transition and Training Program across Australia and New Zealand.
