Background

This Telstra business unit produced the White and Yellow Pages Directories, as well as managing the Book Muncher Recycling business.

Business Challenge

The organisation required improved management of paper roll stocks worth approximately $60M annually. Additionally, the financials associated with the management of recycling activities needed to be moved from spread sheets to an appropriate management system.

Results

CMC was engaged to define the requirements for the system, conduct an RFP process to identify and assess candidate solutions, leading to the selection of a successful business partner to deploy the selected solution. An Oracle Software Supplier was selected, the system deployed and Inventory of paper rolls brought under control.

The complexity of this environment was primarily due to the large value of the materials being controlled as well as the tracking of serial and batch numbers to enable faulty product tracking to take place. The solution accommodated all these requirements.

A simple Financial Accounting Package (MYOB) for the desktop environment was commissioned for the management of the recycled paper debtor’s accounts, reducing the workload from 2 weeks per month to 2 days per month to manage the business transaction volume.
