Background
John Holland secured the contract to operate and maintain NSW’s Country Regional Network (CRN) for the Country Rail Infrastructure Authority (CRIA).
The organisation completed the implementation of IBM’s Maximo Enterprise Asset Management for CRN. Following this, John Holland was expanding operations in the Transport Services and Energy & Resources sectors.
Business Challenge
John Holland needed an Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) solution to unify maintenance operations, ensure asset availability and safety compliance, and improve performance reporting across its growing regional depots and asset-heavy divisions.
The organisation commenced a multi-stream business transformation EAM Program to standardise asset management practices and manage and control asset utilisation. This program would ensure availability and safety compliance and improve processes and reporting across their asset intensive businesses.
EAM Project Results
John Holland engaged Combined Management Consultants (CMC) to develop the framework for the EAM Transformation Program. CMC established the executive engagement process, governance structure and forums to facilitate the implementation of enterprise-wide processes and technology.
The EAM Program delivered:
1.Standardised Operations
- A Common Operating Model (COM) for asset management.
- Unified project implementation methodology.
- Centralised data conversion tools.
2. Cross-Business Enablement
- Reusable system configurations requiring minimal adjustments.
- Scalable platforms for Transport and Energy sector expansions.
- Corporate standards for fleet management and inventory control.
3. Organisational Collaboration
- Plant and Finance Officer forum groups enabling COM adoption.
- Portable skills training programs.
- Harmonised definitions for asset management processes.
Implementation Outcomes
CMC successfully managed the EAM Program through design, build, and deployment phases, achieving 23% cost reductions in implementation/support while standardizing risk management protocols for financial, safety, and environmental compliance.
