Background

John Holland is one of Australia’s leading businesses in construction, mining, professional services, and engineering. The company delivers a wide range of complex and diversified projects. John Holland Rail (JHR) tendered for the operations and maintenance of the NSW Country Rail Network (CRN) on behalf of Rail Infrastructure Corporation (RIC). As part of their bid, John Holland needed to implement a Linear Asset Management System.

Business Challenge

John Holland set out to evaluate and select a suitable Linear Asset Management System for inclusion in their tender. To do so, they engaged an independent consulting organisation with a proven Software Evaluation and Selection Methodology, along with experience in project management and system implementation within engineering and consulting environments. The company required completion of the evaluation, selection, and implementation planning within six weeks.

Results

CMC facilitated and project managed the evaluation and selection process for the Linear Asset Management System.

Working within tight deadlines, CMC collaborated with John Holland to complete key tasks and facilitated Business Scenario Workshops across core business areas:

  • Operations

  • Maintenance

  • Property Management

CMC conducted a vendor pre-qualification process to assess each provider’s capability, experience, and pricing model. Based on this assessment, CMC shortlisted vendors and advanced them to the Request for Proposal (RFP) stage. CMC also supported due diligence activities for the finalist vendors.

John Holland selected and decided to implement the IBM Maximo Suite, integrating it with JHR’s core systems to support the handover of operations and maintenance responsibilities for the NSW CRN on behalf of RIC.

Following the system selection, CMC prepared a draft Business Continuity Plan, which the organisation later developed and tested further. CMC continued to support John Holland Rail by providing ERP and Business Systems Strategy and Project Management throughout the Design, Build, and Implementation stages of the Asset Management System.
