Tilling Group was established in November 1963 and began as a small factory in Eltham, VIC. Its primary activities are the importation of structural timber mostly from overseas and some local suppliers, as well as production of cedar lining products using imported timber. Tilling are now Australia’s largest wholesaler of Engineered Wood Products including the SmartFrame range of Timber I-Joist, Laminated Veneer Lumber and Glued Laminate Beams.

Tilling has five sites in capital cities across Australia and they sell over 30 million lineal meters of timber every year.

Business Challenge

Due to expansion and the volume of timber sold, Tilling was experiencing significant challenges with its existing ERP system, particularly in the areas of stock management, production and import purchasing. Whilst there were many things they needed to retain in their existing system, there were many more short comings that were costing the business time and effort in day to day operations.

The business decided to evaluate and implement a new integrated ERP system to support ongoing growth, reduced manual processes and improved efficiencies in the areas of financial and management reporting, supply chain, sales and marketing, customer service, stock control, and performance management.


CMC was engaged to conduct an independent Evaluation Process to determine which ERP solution would best support the business moving forward.  A Vendor Pre-Qualification process was facilitated to assist in short listing suitable Vendors and solutions. CMC then worked with the business to document Tilling’s Key Business Scenarios.

CMC project managed the RFP process, Vendor Presentations, Due Diligence and provided technical advice to support the decision-making process. Tilling decided on their preferred Vendor and then proceeded to implementation.
