Established in 1761, A.W. Faber-Castell (Faber-Castell) is a family owned company and the manufacturer of a diverse range of high quality writing, drawing and colouring products.

Business Challenge

Faber-Castell had identified a number of “pressure points” with their environment which needed urgent action in order to stabilise the business systems and operating procedures within the organisation. The business also needed to decide whether to upgrade to a new version of Microsoft Dynamics NAV and whether this could be done in a specified timeframe at the main site located in Smithfield, NSW but also the sales offices located in VIC, QLD, SA and WA.


CMC conducted interviews with senior management and an Action Plan was developed to assist the executive team with moving to a stable and productive business system that appropriately supported the required business processes.

CMC recommended that Faber-Castell move ahead with the upgrade to Microsoft Dynamics NAV V5.0 as this would provide considerably improved business functionality which would reduce the processing pressure points currently being experienced. This would also provide a platform for streamlining the EDI processing and Landed Costing as well as to enable Faber-Castell to consider the adoption of additional modules such as Warehouse Management, Demand Forecasting and CRM.

CMC worked with the client and the vendor, Hands-On Systems to review the strategy and capability of the vendor to commit to the required deadlines and budget estimates.

The project was divided into phases and CMC provided Project Management Support to implement the core business functions and requirements for Phase 1. Phase 2 included further enhancements such as CRM and Manufacturing.
