The Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) had initiated a project to determine the organisation’s requirement for Business Intelligence (BI) and Reporting. The focus was on understanding the requirements necessary to support effective decision making, key performance indicator (KPI) monitoring and statutory reporting across all business units.

Business Challenge

The ABC realised that the following key activities would need to be completed for Stage 1 of the project:

  • CMC would train 9 ABC resources in facilitation and requirements gathering.
  • Identify the information needs and sources of the information across all groups at various levels of the organisation.
  • Conduct Requirements and Information Gathering sessions with Divisions/States.
  • Develop a Requirements Document which would include a Gap Analysis and Data Sourcing, Cleansing and Conversion to support a possible Tender process.

The ABC required resources and expertise to assist with managing these activities and to put structure around the process so that the ABC has the requirements available to them so that they may be prioritised and potentially delivered to the business.


CMC was engaged to assist the ABC with the Review and Identification of the organisation’s Business Intelligence (BI) and Reporting Requirements. This included a Gap Analysis as well as Data Cleansing and Conversion Requirements.

CMC also provided Facilitation and Business Analyst Training to ABC staff from several functional divisions of the business so that the ABC was well prepared to conduct the Requirements Gathering Workshops across the enterprise and to continue to do so following this initial stage.
Participants were trained on the tools, techniques, values, principles and key concepts of group facilitation.

This stage led to the ABC’s preparation of a Business Case with the possibility of moving forward with the Evaluation, Selection and Implementation of an enterprise BI Solution for the ABC.
