Sandvik Mining and Construction (SMC) is one of the world’s leading providers of equipment and solutions for mineral exploration, surface and underground mining, bulk materials handling and environmental restoration. They also offer solutions for many applications in the construction industry, including surface rock excavation, tunnelling, demolition, recycling and road rehabilitation.
Sandvik had grown through acquisition resulting in a complex company structure in the Australia Pacific region. The organisation decided to implement Pronto Xi to provide a more comprehensive ERP environment and reduce the number of disparate systems.
Many business processes would also be changing to reflect the new company structure such as order, finance, purchasing and warehousing processes.
Sandvik engaged CMC to project manage the transfer of the Newcastle Production Unit businesses into the Pronto Manufacturing environment.
CMC worked with the business to help develop these new processes and manage the transition. He also took responsibility for training users on the new systems and new processes and communicating and helping to manage the changes that arose as part of the new IT systems implementation. CMC was also responsible for data preparation, cut-over and infrastructure.
There were also many legal, financial, administrative and change management issues that needed to be addressed. The project was successful and resulted in streamlined common business processes across the organisation.
