Background

John Holland is one of Australia’s leading construction, mining, professional services and engineering businesses. They are involved in many diversified and complex projects. John Holland Rail (JHR) was one of the tenderers for the operations and maintenance of the NSW Country Rail Network (CRN) on behalf of Rail Infrastructure Corporation (RIC). As part of the bid, John Holland required a Linear Asset Management System.

Business Challenge

John Holland needed to evaluate and select an appropriate Linear Asset Management System for inclusion in their tender response. They required assistance from an independent consulting organisation that had a proven Software Evaluation and Selection Methodology and also experience with Project Management and System Implementation in Engineering and Consulting Services organisations. The evaluation, selection and implementation planning was required to be completed within 6 weeks.

Results

CMC was engaged to facilitate and project manage the Evaluation and Selection of a Linear Asset Management System.

There was a very tight timeframe for the project and CMC worked with John Holland to complete the tasks and activities and to facilitate the Business Scenario Workshops for the key focus areas of the business which were:

  • Operations.
  • Maintenance.
  • Property Management.

An initial vendor pre-qualification process was conducted to assess the capability, experience and likely pricing models for potential solutions. The result of this determined which vendors moved through to the Request for Proposal (RFP) stage. CMC also assisted with Due Diligence for the finalist vendors.

The organisation decided to implement the IBM Maximo Suite integrated to JHR core systems to support the taking over of the operations and maintenance of the NSW Country Rail Network (CRN) on behalf of Rail Infrastructure Corporation (RIC).

Following this work, CMC was then engaged to prepare draft Business Continuity Plan which was handed over to the organisation for further development and testing. CMC continued to support John Holland Rail with an ERP and Business Systems Strategy and Project Management for the Asset Management Implementation through the Design and Build and Implementation Stages.
