Background

Horticulture Australia Limited (HAL) is a Not for Profit, industry owned organisation. It works in partnership with Australia’s horticulture industries to invest in research, development and marketing programs that provide benefit to industry and the wider community. The organisation invests annually in programs designed to align with the strategic investment priorities of Australia’s horticulture industries and the Australian Government’s Rural Research and Development priorities. They are known as an RDC (Research and Development Company).

HAL receives recommendations on investment from Industry Advisory Committees (IACs) which provide industry specific experience and expertise.

Business Challenge

HAL have a number of bespoke legacy applications across Finance, ERP and Project Management and Grants and CRM; however, these no longer met the needs of the business from a risk management, functional and reporting perspective.

Results

HAL engaged CMC to undertake an independent Vendor and Software Evaluation and Selection for a new Business System. HAL sought expressions of interest from a number of Finance / ERP solution and Grant Management System (GMS) vendors to implement a replacement system that was fully integrated and would provide efficiencies and process improvements. General requirements included: Financial Management, Grant Management, Enterprise Risk Management, Customer Relationship Management and Web and Intranet integration.

CMC’s Evaluation and Selection Methodology was used to prequalify the vendors, document the business requirements (using Business Scenarios), prepare a Request for Proposal (RFP) and facilitate a pragmatic market assessment resulting in a preferred vendor recommendation.

HAL selected Oakton to define and design a GMS / CRM / Finance solution using Microsoft Dynamics CRM and AX systems. The GMS was built using custom forms on CRM integrating to AX for all financial transactions. CMC was involved in Project Managing the Define and Design phase and preparing for the Build and Implementation with a two phased “Go Live” schedule.
