Most projects require some degree of Business Process Analysis and Requirements Documentation. This is often the most critical part of a Business, ERP or IT initiative as it is the foundation for identifying the business needs and determining solutions to business problems. Solutions often include a systems development component, but may also consist of process improvement, organisational change or strategic planning and policy development.
Business Analysis as a discipline has a heavy overlap with Requirements Analysis but focuses on identifying the changes to an organisation that are required for it to achieve its strategic goals. These changes can include changes to strategies, structures, policies, processes and information systems.
Requirements Documentation provides a vehicle for communicating the needs of the business to all stakeholders from end users through to heads of departments. It provides a baseline to understand what the project is aiming to achieve.
